Samsung shared that their latest phones will bring a “new mobile experience powered by AI.” We’re not exactly sure what that means, but clues from companies like Qualcomm and Google might help us understand.
Samsung usually uses Qualcomm chips in its U.S. phones. The new phones, probably named Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, might use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3. Samsung is often one of the first to use Qualcomm’s latest chips.
In October, Qualcomm said their new chips would let phones run AI applications right on the phone. This means smaller versions of apps, like ChatGPT, can work without needing the internet. Qualcomm also showed how their chips can make images from words. For example, type “create an image that shows a man driving a car,” and it makes a picture. Google’s Pixel 8 Pro can do something similar with its Tensor G3 chip, creating wallpapers based on chosen words.
The Pixel 8 Pro supports Google’s Gemini Nano AI model too. This model can create replies to texts, transcribe recorded talks, and more. AI is often used to make videos and photos better, silently working behind the scenes to improve our tech experiences.
